Hello,

I'll be driving down to Chamonix from Calais but i've heard that the roads get quite hairy as you get close to Chamonix. Any experience of this?

Also, what are the top things to do in the area?

Temperature at this time of year? (August)

Hi Had holiday in Chamonix several years ago remember it as village in very steep sided valley. Fab walking once you are up high.....never did night life, too knackered after marathon hikes UP & down!!!!  :-)
Did a day trip to Chamonix (from another part of France) in July 1990. Not sure what you mean about the roads but had no problems. Took the cable car up Mont Blanc - excellent. However, temp in village was about 28C; temp at top (about 12000 feet) was -4C so take some warm clothes.
The roads are fine, very well looked after and what a view, just take away snow! http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/9713/cham023sd.jpg
