Short term car insurance

I'm 18 this month and passed my driving test last week, so quotes are looking a little steep. Are there any websites to do with short term cover and/or insurance as the third driver of a car? All the websites I've found seem to assume you're the main driver. Thanks

you probably need to get the main driver to change his/her insurance instead of getting your own policy

www.belldirect.co.uk and www.elephant.co.uk do 10 month insurance options instead of 12 months to help bring the cost down and is called a bonus accelerator (10 months is classed as 1 year no claims).  Although this isn't perfect it does make it a little more managable.
