but most days ...Thursdays for me... it's 'junk'...y'know get your sofa covered... have some blinds/curtains... save yet another child.... I always scan before recycling.... but now getting post which seems junk because the env. is marked with either huge charity postmark, or, indeed 'sponsered ' by a charity which makes it APPEAR like a charity appeal.....so want, I'M AFRAID to chuck it in recyc...... like I say, I look at all before binning, but this am got a cheque in an env, which, if I hadn't checked I would have discarded.....env. ob 'sponsered' by a charity...but I may have thrown away with rest of stuff your comments appreciated...

I've thrown three pieces of post away today without even checking. Charity letters are a little monotonous. I hope it wasn't a cheque, though!
why would a charity be giving people money?
Paddy I done the same although left the junk for ages - then decided to start to look through it and found a cheque for £250 a bonus from Friends Provident. So since then I make myself look through it all though it bores me big time. But have sympathy to the postman having to post this stuff - he gets paid to do it so it is making money for him.

bednobs you got it wrong.... thanks to all others...it's a case of ...if youare expecting some sort of payment from somone... if (bednobs).... it has charity stamp.. tink twice before chucking!
The way I feel mail can build up for days before I open stuff. But I think one should always make the effort to find the enthusiasm to open each anyway. A few years back I was putting charity envelopes in a pile and just could not be bothered with them. After a few years (!) I decided I really must sort them as the crate was overflowing, so opened each in turn. Turned out one wasn't the charity envelope it looked. It was the hospital appointment I was very miffed they hadn't bothered to send me a couple of years previously !
what's a charity stamp, anyway? - I don't know you what you mean. I've just opened an unaddressed envelope which presumably everyone got, with two drink mats from some charity appeal. I'm not donating but I'll keep the drink mats, I didn't ask them to send them to me.
Charities are not unknown for taping a couple of pence to the letter to make you feel guilty. I've even had a well known animal one send me a tee shirt ! And small bits & bobs from poor villages in the world are not uncommon too. As well as Xmas stuff. Wish they'd not send stuff really. I used to give via post but as I found it difficult to give to one and not another, so ended up sending small amount to a large number of them, which they then wasted by sending me more begging letters on a regular basis. I don't encourage that method any more.
They don't make me feel guilty by sending me coins, or pens, or gift tags, or whatever.

For several years I got sent the "painting with the foot" Christmas cards. I didn't ask for them, I said I didn't want them, they didn't come to collect them back, so I kept them.
I usually get those charity letters that contain a pen.
I once nearly threw out a junk mail envelope from littlewoods...it contained a cheque for £15k....win on the pools......check everything now..
Murray - o wow..... :-)
It arrived in one of those cheap tatty envelopes with all that tacky writing on..was in a rush to go out so threw it onto dining table and opened at night..what if ??
I return junk mail to the sender if they have been so kind to enclose a pre-paid envelope. It costs THEM money!

I also get begging letters from charities - again I return these, often including the "freebie" that they enclose. I tell them that I don't want their mail, and that I don't support any one charity over another.
