What time of the year are flights to the USA cheapest? Is it best to go direct to NY then get an internal fight to DC or vice versa? Thanks.

Strange you posted this as this is exactly what I hope to do later in the year. However, I've decided to take a coach between NY and DC so I get to see some countryside and it's cheap.
I would suggest that you decide what time of year you want to go to New York and Washington first, and then book as soon as the flights become available, which is quite often the cheapest way of doing it. Think carefully about which season you want to go in. I've been to New York twice in the winter and believe you me it was COLD. It is great to go before Christmas though with all the decorations out on the streets and in the shops, and the ice-skating at the Rockefeller Center and at Central Park.
