I think but not sure Montreal is French speaking.
Toronto may be better if its your first visit.

yup, francophone. Second biggest French city, I believe.

I was there too long ago for my tips to be of any use but here's the local tourism website

If you could also get to visit Quebec city, that's lovely - smaller, older and prettier.
It is French speaking but don't be dismayed (if you are) by that. In the francophone cities everyone can speak English fluently, but prefers not to ! It's only in the remote places that you find people who speak only French and cannot speak any more than very limited English, if at all.
I've been to Toronto and was told by several people there that in Montreal they can be quite ignorant to you if you don't speak French.
Montreal, been there not too many years ago ,drove from Ontario, they have fantastic old buildings , its a busy place so suggest you check out the hotels/ motels as there are so many, modern and old style. just read up and book them before you go, a word of warning re driving ,the centre is just like Paris so so busy , best to rely on public transport or arrange through the hotel for a City trip. As for bars /restaurants etc, they're all a very good standard , as they say just go with the flow, have a greatime.
