I am going to Verona in a couple of weeks and would love to know any cool bars/restaurants in the city. Are there any essential tourist attractions?

go to an opera in the Roman amphitheatre under the stars. Magic.
I have to agree 100% with jno, even if you don't think you like Opera (I do) you just cannot go to Verona and NOT see the Opera, you will never forget it!

I am going to the amphitheatre to see Aida - I am very excited and can't wait. What else did you see in Verona?
emilymamu - I saw Aida at Verona about ten years ago. I was brilliant but here's some essential advice - when you go in you can get cushions to alleviate the effect of sitting on the stone steps - get at least 2. After a couple of hours sitting on those steps your bum feels like it's been whacked 50 times with a cricket bat. Obviously if you're in the posh seats on ground level that doesn't apply.

Thanks for the advice Ludwig - I will definitely be taking it as I don't like the sound of that cricket bat effect one bit. Did you do/see anything else in Verona?

emilymamu - we weren't there very long, just for the opera and then the morning after. It's basically just a very nice medieval city, lots of squares, statues, museums, churches, cafes etc, so we wandered around. One thing I do remember is that you can visit Juliet's house (from Romeo and Juliet) and see the balcony where she did the 'wherefore art thou romeo' speech from. I don't know why they say it's Juliet's house cos obviously that's fictional, but there you go.

theres also a church thing you can go to but if you are a girl and wearing a skirt above the knee and open shoulders they will make u cover up with sarongs to show respect.
