Hi everyone. Thinking of booking a cruise for 2013 -- would I be better to book now and secure a room, or wait until nearer the time for a better deal?

If you want to KNOW that you are going to get EXACTLY what you want then book now, if you are prepared to be flexible then you might get a better deal by waiting.
there is no telling. Prices will come down quite late if they see they still have empty cabins; if they're already sold out, they won't.

Do you subscribe to the special offer emails from people like cruise.co.uk and 1st4cruising? (And quite a few others, including the cruise lines themselves.) Viking river cruises are offering "up to" £1000 off 2013 cruises already, though not for long.
