Has anyone been on holiday in Croatia?  I am thinking of going in May and would like to know the best place to go for restaurants, scenery, weather, etc. etc. I wouldn't say money no object, but not a cheapie either.

Croatia is/was a beautiful place. Although the holiday mags don't tell you, there are parts where you won't get a nice reception. If you are hotel bound it won't matter, but if you are travelling about stay away from the northeast, eastern border areas Varazdin, down to Osijek. Stay near the coast Split etc. the weather will be brilliant in may, lovely scenery. my advice and i strongly advise you to try this. Get a bucket shop flight to Kastela airport(Split) and find a hotel yourself, you are guaranteed to get one in may, you should pay no more than 7.00 pppn. finding your own. pay by the night, and look for a better one if need be, or move to Dubrovnik by train etc. this would be a brill holiday and so cheap. good luck.

Thanks!  How about if we book a hotel over the internet before we go?  Do you recommend we go to Split or Dubrovnik, are they both by the sea? And would we get a cab from the airport to the hotel?  Thanks again!
To be honest, there's not much in it, but split is a little more "funky". yes they are both by the sea, but as for getting a hotel on the net, if that makes you more secure about things then do it although you won't get as good a rate, and the hotels on the net are all just paying web co's to advertise them, and they gen. talk crap! the accom needs to be witnessed before you pay in my view, unless you are paying megabucks! Cabs are no problem just make sure they are licensed, and ask how much to wherever, if they pretend they don't speak english move to another cab. If you like the ethnicity of it all you will love the place, but beware of pick pockets and con men, hide your money well. All in all you should be fine.
In Split, you shoud DEFINITELY eat at Bistro Marcello  at the beach (Bacevice), A restaurant called Boban and you MUST NOT MISS Sumica Restaurant!!!  I promise you, you will love each of these restaurants!
