We have just learned that Thomas Cook cabin crew are set to take industrial action and our airport is one of those that will be affected, the remainder of our accommodation has to be paid by 11th November, we got the flight separate from the accommodation, we would get our air fare back but not the
accommodation, we are due to fly on the 23rd December, don't know what is the best course of action to take here

what does your travel insurance say - does it exclude industrial action?

If you are going to get your flight money back from TC, I'd just buy more tickets with a different airline.
Poor you, that would really p me off. Has TC confirmed the flight won't run? Whatever I wouldn't give up my trip, there must be 100s of other flights you could book instead (Canaries isn't it?)

Hi boxy, we would only get a refund after a certain time and that's if they go ahead which it looks as though they will +I am not sure if TC is the only Lanzarote flight that day,
the travel insurance probably will but as Bill is 70 now, he isn't covered with our Bank which is who we have it through, I was taking out an ins. for him at the beginning of December
Industrial action is sometimes an exclusion, that's why I asked. Do you have to fly from Newcastle? You'd need to buy now really, tickets for Christmas will go really fast.
Question Author
Prudie, this happened to us two years ago, I am terrified the same will happen again, we lost £900 then as they just say your accommodation was there for you
Question Author
and very very expensive boxy, if, indeed there are any

Aww Bobbie, what a quandary indeed. I've thought about what I'd do and decided I'd be trying to cancel the flight and rebook with someone else. Good luck with it and I hope it all works out well for your CHristmas holiday.
which island are you flying to, Bobbs?

Question Author
yes I know, I really am in a bit of a frazzle over this
I know it won't help you at all this time, but in future when booking a holiday make sure you take out travel insurance immediately. I work in a Post Office and our travel insurance (which you can just buy over the counter for anyone up to the age of 74, over that age you need to ring up) is valid immediately. It covers all sorts of things that may occur before you go on holiday, for example falling ill with something that you didn't have before you took the insurance out, or a close family member falling ill. If you work it covers you if a colleague falls ill and you can't take your holiday because you need to cover for them. It also covers you from the minute you leave home until the minute you get back again, so not just whilst you're abroad. This travel insurance has won an award for best travel insurance for a few years running now.

Sorry I can't help with this particular dilemma, but I hope it all works out for you.
But would the travel insurance solve the quandary spudq?

Would it pay out and allow purchase of another flight at this stage or would bobbie still have to wait to see if it was actully cancelled and riska ruined Christmas?
Question Author
thanks for the post spudq, I have a annual travel insurance, it is my OHs that I will need to renew as he's now 70 and HSBC don't offer the same travel insurance for him now as they did, and like maidup said, I don't think I could cancel my flight and expect a refund, I need to go through and check if TC would actually pay out through Industrial action? This happened to us a couple of years ago where we lost a considerable amount of money
Hi Bobbisox - sorry you are in this rotten mess - unfortunately cannot advise you but sure hope you do get sorted out. As another posting advised take your money back and go with another airway. If there is a day or two you lose then just do - it better than nothing and losing more money
Question Author

Hope you are feeling a little stronger with each day Conn
