I have flown from Brum several times and have often wondered why, at the departure gate, after the baggage has been checked in and passengers have just their cabin luggage, there is a shop selling luggage! Who's going to buy it? You can't take it with you on the plane! Am I missing a really obvious reason?

Maybe you can buy it and the save it for you and you pick it up on the way back from your trip.
Exactly right, VHG. They have a 'Collect on Return' service...
