Yes - you only need your ID to travel about the EU.
Spain may let you in with an ID card but I think that you'll need your passport to get back into the UK.
only if its kiwi and dark brown.
The UK lets EU citizens in with just their ID cards - I've seen it at Luton Airport and no-one bats an eyelid.

Indeed the EU lets UK citizens in with just an ID card, in theory. As we don't have one, a passport fulfils the function.
