i have never done this crossing before and wondered if anyone could give me details. ie. crossing time, cheapest ferry across, different operators, good/bad advice appreciated etc

there's only one operator, "red funnel". car ferry to east cowes takes 55mn, hydrofoil to west cowes takes 23mn.
