There is a place (village/hamlet ?) in the Monchique Council area, Algarve, southern Portugal called Giesteira. Can anyone give me its location - I have been unable to trace it - co-ordinates (latituide/longitude) would be very helpful.

I found that one, JMR, but it's nowhere near the Algarve that I can see
There are 3 Giesteiras on Google map....take your pick.

I get six of them on Google maps, all in the north...
I think one or two of those are actually street names jno....

jno, thanks - I reckon you have found it because I rather thought it might be somewhere near Marmelete. Now to get the co-ordinates so I can see its surroundings on Google Earth.
just put the latitude and logitude into Google and bingo!

Having said that... it appears to be a tree...
