Does early November count? I had my honeymoon there and it was lovely; never needed a jacket or jumper even though it did drizzle once or twice.

Thanks emeritus
Have seen that site but was after 'first-hand' info.
But thank you all the same.
We went in March and enjoyed it very much. We did a tour of the island, staying in different hotels every couple of days . On the North coast it was very quiet and we were able to have lovely walks along the levadas with practically no one there. The temperature was pleasant, neither hot nor cold.
It was quite a bit warmer on the south coast and Funchal was quite busy . I don't know how old you are, but we thought that Funchal was pretty well full of oldies, zimmers at dawn for the breakfast buffet, so if you are younger, I'd give Funchal a miss.
We did hire a car and drove round the island. It was really hairy sometimes with all those very steep roads and hairpin bends, but we survived to tell the tales.
The people are lovely and the gardens splendid.
Have a nice time.

Hi ladyalex
We are staying on the North coast but as we have hired a car for the duration of our stay, will be able to get around.

I realised after booking that we would have perhaps been better in the South, but because the holiday was an exclusive offer with all inclusive board, was unable to change it without costing much more.As this is just our 'after Xmas' break did not want this..

We like it quiet to recharge our batteries after the hective activities of the festive season,it is just the weather that worries me.Onecan go to the Canarias knowing it will be warm.....I thought it would be the same in Madeira, thinking it lay further South ,which it is not.

Don't expect to be able to sunbathe, but to be able to sit out in a pleasant temperature.

Do you think we will be ableto do this?
