Can anyone suggest cheap accommodation whilst travelling along the coast of New South Wales and Queensland please

Hostels are the cheapest.
Check out www.yha.com.au
There are other hostels that are independently run too I'd suggest getting a Lonely Planet Australia/East Coast Australia book for a whole selection of them.
Don't be scared by hostels as most have ensuite/double/twin rooms just like hotels but are so much cheaper.
