No, not a political party for once, someone else looking for ‘new blood’.

Many here donate? I’m regular, 41 units to date and counting.
I doubt it on AB but if you’re young enough(17-40) please consider bone marrow donation too, friend of mine will need some soon but I’m outside the parameters anyway.

I signed up to the Anthony Nlan Bone Marrow appeal about twenty years ago. Was never contacted which I subsequently felt grateful for (after a doctor friend of mine explained how painful extracting bone marrow is).

And this drive for black donors has been going on for a few years now.

Very worthwhile.
I congratulate anyone who is a donor of anything - unfortunately, they can't use any part of me (even when I'm dead, I'm told) & have always felt bad about that.
I don't want to seem to be blowing my own trumpet but I used to donate. I gave 28 times. Too old now, though.

Don’t put yourself down Lie In King, every single one of us had a use in one way or another!

I regularly walked around with a 'nearly empty arm' back in the day:-)
I used to give blood until I started to routinely pass out afterwards despite all the care given by the syaff. No cause or problem established, so I was asked to stop because I was scaring the new donors. 26 pints given.
35 donations - gave up & returned all my certificates & badges when they asked me to sit an exam before I was allowed to give!
What exam, davebro?
They presented me with a multi-page ring binder requiring answers to a multitude of health questions. I said "no thanks"" & walked out.
Oh! Every donor had to do that

Yeah, why would you want all those stringent medical checks anyway?
Drug user, sexually promiscuous individual etc, blood’s just blood, you’ll receive it from anyone if you’re running out, innit?!

Not back when I was giving - it was a new thing. And after 30+ years of OK donating I thought it was an insult TBH.

I reckon I gave about 100 times before I had to retire but they lost my records on a change of address so I have no evidence as I didn't always keep the certificates. I started giving while in my teens, and do have a gold badge somewhere.
I need to start donating again. Did it for years and then stopped because my wife was sent home after giving birth to our daughter and losing LOTS of blood with serious anaemia.

Am I missing summat here?

.
You generally do. What is it this time?
It is confusing as to why you stopped donating when your wife had lost a lot of blood - more reason to continue, I'd have thought, Zacs
She should have had a transfusion but didn't. She was too weak to look after our daughter for at least a week and I had to nurse her back to health, which prompted me to question.....why I was bothering.
Gotcha
