outlook 2007 problem with opening links in emails

a friends sony vaio laptop is running with windows 7 with outlook 2007, he cannot click on the links within emails and having done the research nothing appears to be incorrect, IE8 is the default browser and all other settings look correct, and we have looked at all the settings and cant for the life of me see what the problem is, very annoying.

I'd say you need to look at all the security settings first in Outlook.
