I have downloaded the latest version of "Java"; however, when I try to use a site that requires it I get the message "Sorry, you do not have a Java-enabled browser". How can I fix this? I have Windows XP and IE.

You sure it does not say JavaScript enabled browser.

JavaScript is not the same thing as Java.
Often, you can disable scripts in browsers. This helps stop window resizing, add-ons installing, and the like. That is scripting .. or java script. Some websites need it to be functional in what they display.
Many do not require it.
