I have the sound logo turned up as high as possible but I sometimes watch a DVD on my laptop and there is hardly any sound at all. I have windows 7. How can I turn up the sound really loud ? Thanks all in advance.

Double-click on the system tray speaker logo .. open the mixer panel and look for wave and CD players. Turn the sliders up to a couple of marks from the top.
Also check the individual vol. control in whatever software player you are using to play the dvd's.
Is it ALL the sound, or just the dialogue? I've seen a few laptops of late where the surround sound isn't processed properly, so the dialogue is very quiet.
Surround sound on a laptop?! That's a new one on me : )
5.1 sound built in? : )
Albags: you could use a USB external device, but I was talking about the processing: I've seen a few Toshibas that don't deal with the centre channel that tends to handle most of the dialogue properly in WMP, so the dialogue is very muted. The speaker setup needs correcting (if possible) or I usually install KMPlayer and set it to downmix to mono. (They're being used in classrooms so surround sound isn't important, but being able to hear the dialogue is).
