Why do I keep getting error messages 680 telling me I am not connected to the internet when I have been working satisfactorily?. I then have to reconnect.

Error 680 is 'no dial tone'. If you're using a router it could be that your computer is trying to switch to a dial-up connection, resulting in your loss of signal.

Try this:
Go into Internet Explorer.
Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections.
Ensure that 'Never dial a connection' is selected.
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
