Samsung DVD Recorder.

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Samsung DVD Recorder SH823M-5-7 series.
Can anyone tell me in 'Idiot language' how to operate it?
I was told it was set up on 5 on the TV remote,(so presumably have to press this first) then I had to press Source & scroll to FAV, then press Menu on DVD remote go to timer record then scroll right & again & press O.K. to add to list - so far so good, but when I have entered the programme I want to record -what then?
If I do ever get to record something, how do I replay it?

Any help would be appreciated as I think this machine knows I'm an idiot & hates me.

Have you actually looked at the manual? .. or is there a quick start guide?
They work quite like a Video Recorder.
