Im looking into buying a new laptop and found this hp that has the sort of spec/price im looking for. http://www.pcworld.co...t.html#tab-tech-specs

However I've been told by a few friends not to touch hp laptops as they've both had numerous problems with dodgy parts and needing to be sent for repairs.

Can anyone else give me an idea of their experience with hp good or bad? Or an alternitive laptop that has a similar price and spec.

TIA

my lappy is an HP Pavilion, and I've had it for about 2 years. it had 1 dead pixel when I got it, other than that it's excellent.

If your friends had one of the 6000 series they would have had plenty of problems, mine went back 2 or 3 times, the last time i sent it back they replaced everything that they could. see pictures. Lasted a couple of months then packed in again. I ended up scrapping it

I am thinking of getting a new computer after christmas and i am thinking of a new HP with windows 7 so long as it does not have 6000 in the number
ps That is just some of the parts they replaced they even had to replace some of the housing as they damaged it getting inside the laptop. zoom in on the stickers
I got an aspire 7540 (obsolescent) from PCworld in the spring for £400. 17.3inch screen HD+ Dolby sound 3Gb mem. So far excellent.
I know nothing about laptops but I have an hp pavillion as well and I think it`s excellent
I'm responsible for well over 100 laptops of which the majority are HP and in 3 years I've only seen two go faulty with genuine hardware faults (seen a few more broken but that's not the fault of the equipment!) and I would say That HPs after sales service and warranty support are second to none.

The laptop you have linked to is a very nice and very high spec laptop (in fact probably overkill for most peoples needs) the only possible reservation I'd have about it is the screen size, it's designated as a ultra portable so has a smaller screen than most laptops (and a higher price for being small) but if you are after an ultra portable machine it should do the job very well.

Thank you for all your advice guys. A friend found an acer laptop with a similar spec so I'll have to decide between those two now!
