Subtitles on Iomega media hard drive?

I got an Iomega Screenplay Plus media drive and I noticed that when I put SRT subtitles and a movie onto it, the movie plays but the subtitles didn't work. The instructions that came with it are not very detailed. Does anyone know are subtitles compatible with this and how do you put them on?
