I saw these laptops on Argos and I think they are also sold at PCWorld.
Can anyone recommend them? Thanks.

These were originally IBM laptops but they sold their PC arm (PCs and laptops) to Lenovo, a Chinese company.

IBM laptops used to be very well made and reliable, but Lenovo have now owned them for a few years so not sure if they are still as well made or reliable.

Lenovo are certainly a large and well known company so you are ok going for a Lenovo laptop.

Hi VHG - can't go too far wrong with IBM. I have looked at Lenovo's company site and at first glance, I did think they were Japanese which would have been preferable. Their spill was quite impressive. However, Lenovo do seem to offer value for money with their Lenovo G Series 250 GB. There are 36 Argos customer reviews who all give a good rating for this laptop . I'm of the opinion that it's not so risky purchasing a cheaper laptop and Argos are quite a good firm to buy from if you do need to go back to them. Many, many thanks.

You don't say that you own a Lenovo yourself? I myself stick to HP although I do also use an Acer laptop. Thanks VHG for your imput.
I bought a couple of Lenovo desktop PC's for my office about 4 years ago, they get heavy useage every day and are still going strong.
Computeractive magazine has a Lenovo (Elite Thinkpad) as a recommended Best Buy - can't be much wrong with them?

I'm really warming to these Lenovo's and I haven't even seen one yet!
I'm now reading about the Elite Thinkpad on Computeractive mag.
Thank you Twix & Ginge .... what a helpful lot you all are.
Many thanks.

No, but I worked for IBM for 30 years !

Thank you GL, I've looked at the three sites you recommend and I found them quite informative. Regarding Lenovos, their prices are very competitive and I quite like their slim-line look. I wonder why they're not more well known and more prominent in the stores because they've been going quite a while now.

Hi VHG - you say you worked at IBM for thirty years. That's a long time. Is this company still going? I consider they were the very beginning of all things electronic and then computerised. Am I right?
" Is this company still going?"
This is a joke, right?

"IBM is the world's fourth largest technology company and the second most valuable global brand[4] (after Coca-Cola). IBM is one of the few information technology companies with a continuous history dating back to the 19th century. IBM manufactures and sells computer hardware and software (with a focus on the latter), and offers infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology"

From Wikipedia.

BTW, all modern PCs are descended from, and still incorporate design elements from the original IBM PC.

Hi rojash - Afraid it was rather a tongue in cheek remark. I should have taken the trouble myself to look up this Company. I did know they were large, very large! And I did know IBM were the first with comptometers and computers. I'm going to be more careful with my off-the-cuff remarks in future but thanks for putting me right.
Regards Trish.
