PC not starting.

I went to turn on my PC earlier but all that happened was that it flashed up the Dell part with the loading bar and then went to a blank screen with just a flashing cursor at the top left. I noticed that if I pressed the power button on the PC then it turned off immediately, whereas usually you woul need to hold it in to turn it off.

Is this a serious problem or if I just leave it turned on for a while would it sort itself out? At the minute it is powered down, not sure what to do. Any information or help appreciated.

It might have just been a minor power surge that prevented it from booting normally. If so it should start normally in future.

If it doesn't, trying booting it into Safe Mode (by pressing F8 while it's starting up). If it boots into Safe Mode, close it down as normal then leave it for a minute or so and try rebooting. If the problem reoccurs, close it down and then boot it into Safe Mode again, but this time run System Restore (from Start>All Programs>Accessories) to take the registry back to an earlier date.

If you can't get into Safe Mode you might have a serious problem. Please post again (while praying that Chuck is about!)

Chris I did try once to do the safe mode thing but it didn't work, it did the same thing with the cursor. Oh raspberries. I'm on my bro's laptop at my mother's at the mo so won't have access to internet unless the PC starts up after. I'll keep checking answers when I'm about here. I might just turn it on and leave it a while to see what happens. Heading home now with everything crossed. Cheers.
Sounds like hard drive failed to kick in, not good!!
