Trying to use skype, can see my brother the 'other end' in Oz and hear him but he can't hear me. I dont have a webcam and think I also need to buy a microphone. Would my laptop have a built in microphone (the speakers are up full) and if so how do I find out. Otherwise where would I buy a microphone please ? Online if possible. I have Windows XP and usually use Firefox. Non technical by the way. Thanks all.

I use skype occasionally & have a microphone. I got mine at a local discount store for a couple of quid & it works well. Once you get one, go onto the skype site & follow "configure sound settings" & everything should be up & running in no time. hope it helps

You post the make and model of laptop.

Though if it has a webcam the chances are it has also got a mic.

Hi chuck, its an emachines E630/E430 - That's what the book says anyway. Its from Tesco and no, there is no webcam. Lewis, I dont mind getting a cheap microphone but wouldn't know what to look for or where to start. And for buying a webcam either.
Sorry, misread you question, thought it had a webcam.

it hasn't got a microphone either so your best bet would be to buy a webcam with a built in mic, logitech are good webcams and a lot of theirs have built in mics

Sorry Chuck can I just ask, how do you install it ?
LOL,

Doc, no, but I do realise I post a lot of links to amazon, they sell pretty much everything though. and aren't expensive HDMI leads a total ripoff!

Smurf, just put the CD that comes with it in the drive, it should autorun the install program and plug the webcam into a USB port when prompted.
