Skype Video Call Connection Loss

Although Skype works fine when I am talking to people by message, it's when I try to call someone that Skype says I've lost connection after lagging the call completely, even though my connection is actually fine. Skype then says I have gone offline and continues the same process as long as I'm on call.

When I was on Windows XP, Skype (5.5) worked fine. I have recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 (32-bit) and that is where the troubles have been. I tried downgrading to version 4 and then to the beta (5.7) but both offer the same results - fine when using messages, a real pain when attempting to video call.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I don't particularly want to go back to XP (and Vista is just a no-no) but I will downgrade if there is no other way; Skype is the only thing that is letting me down as of now. It is also the only place I talk to people online via IM.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the version of 5.5 for Skype is slow especially at the time of video calling because many times, connection is lost in between and after few seconds and minute, it will be reconnected with the same person if you don't cut the end the call and holding the call. So it is good to make use of older version of it for better video conversation.
