connecting to PC's with cables

Hi I sometimes need to connect two laptops together to move across large amounts of data. It can vary on the other laptop so using a netwrk card is not much use, as the other PC might not always have one. I was wondering is it possible to use a  usb to usb cable or even a firewire to firewire cable?? thanks

Yes there is a special usb cable for networking 2 computers. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact details of the gizmo. Try looking on www.cpc.co.uk Thats where I saw it.
