I've just got a Blackberry Curve 8520 - OK, I know it's not the latest model but it was a real bargain - but I can't seem to change the sound it makes when a text message arrives. I assume this is what the menu calls a Notifier. There's a long list of possible sounds, but when I select one and then Menu, all it will let me do is 'set as ringtone', which I don't want. There doesn't seem to be a 'set as notifier'. The sound I've chosen (or would, if I could) is not appropriate for a ringtone. So am I stuck with the default notififer, or is there a way of changing it? I've been through the whole of the CD and the online user guide, and there's nothing that I can see.
Many thanks.

To change Blackberry Curve 8520 text tone, from the main menu go to Profiles (you may need to hit the menu key to find it if it is not on the main page) and select Advanced. Then highlight the current profile (in bold) and press the menu key and select Edit. Then click on SMS Text and you can select the ring tone from there.

Thank you very much. It took some finding, but I've finally got there and now have a much more discreet (and quirky) sound.

OK, now I'm being really stupid. I thought I'd got it sorted, but I now find that there is no sound at all when a text arrives, and I can't remember how I got to the Advanced options to change it, so that I can see whether I've switched something off (it wasn't quite the same route that you indicated, Old Hubbardy). The phone is ringing in call ode as normal. How do I get the sound back on the SMS please?

Forget the last question, it's OK now. I'd pressed 'phone only' by mistake. But the notifier has reverted to the default..... I might have another go tomorrow, when I'm feeling calmer and less likely to shout at an otherwise excellent device.
