mirc is just one of a range of programs used for internet relay chat (IRC).IRC is a method of logging on to specified chat servers all over the world where you talk, in real-time (like a normal conversation) with other members of that chat room. Most IRC programs allow file transferring to other users and private chat outside the normal chat room. That's it in a nutshell from a mirc user, I'm not a techie!
