logging onto comp as different users...

i was wondering if there would be any benefit to me logging onto my comp as separate users, for security reasons?
for instance viruses...would they affect the files etc of one user account but not others?

would it help speed the comp up to keep various types of things separate such as all movies and movie software as one user, docs etc as another?
or is installed software available on all users accounts?

any ideas?

thanks

no
...but it would certainly make your life more complicated.
Well "no" is not quite the correct answer.

If you have a Windows PC you can create users as Administrators or Limited Users (may be different names in Windows Vista or 7).

Administrators have full power so if you are logged on as an Administrator then programs can be downloaded and installed (even programs that you dont want downloading like viruses).

If you create a second ID as a "limited user" and log on with that then using this ID there is LESS chance of you downloading viruses and other dodgy files (there is still some chance, but it is reduced).

So if you logon on as this limited user on a day to day basis you are likely to be safer.

Only log on as an Administrator when you want to make major changes to the system.
