The Germans have said that the security hole in IE 6. 7 and 8 is so serious they recommend it not being used until MS plug the hole which may take several days. A guy on BBC has just advised not use your PC too muchover the next few days........

How seriously should we take it?

The vast majority of the 'regulars', here in AB's Technology section, don't use Internet Explorer anyway. From reading hundreds (or probably thousands) of posts on here, Firefox is by far the most popular browser, with Chrome in second place.

Internet Explorer has always been trying to keep up with Firefox which, until recently, has been far, far better. The latest versions of IE have started to come close to matching IE, but sites still take much longer to load in IE than they do in Firefox. Further, there's a long history of people discovering security flaws in IE. (Far more so than with Firefox). That's partly because there are more hackers targetting IE than there are trying to attack Firefox, but it's also because Microsoft couldn't organise a p!ss up in a brewery.

how seriously should you take it... fairly.

How bothered am I.... not that much, I've made it policy for where I work that firefox is the default browser and I don't even use windows at home.

Thanks Guys - In fact I use Firefox as well, but was interested in how big this hole really is, as I have a lot of friends who use IE.
