lager plus laptop

Last night my wrist had an unfortunate collision with a glass of lager which fell onto my laptop. None of the keys seemed to work. Now they kinda work, but the computer makes an irritating beeping noise when I turn it on and sometimes just carries on like that, sometimes it starts up. As the keyboard seems to have slightly improved since immediately afterwards can I continue being stupidly optimistic and hope it dries out, or do I have to panic and start sobbing?

Any remedies to these sorts of problems?

The pooter is bleeping probly coz some beer has either stuck a key down slightly or shorted out. Either way, take it to a computer repair shop and get them to clean it. You should be able to save its life.

Take the keyboard it into the shower (or bath) with you; give it a good wash and rinse, and let it dry out thoroughly before using it again and it'll be right as rain.

Yes, *really*. With the added bonus that the soapy water should have cleared the stickiness off the keys too.

finex's suggestion would be great if you had a desktop with a keyboard that you could unplug. The other option would be to throw it away and buy a new one! Please don't soap up your laptop. Let it dry out completely before you turn it back on, but you may find out that a couple of the keys will be forever sticky. I'd go with Potatoman's 'good as new' suggestion.

Eeek! I didn't see the bit about it being a laptop!

Don't go taking a laptop into the shower!!

On the other hand, if you can open the casing and gently remove the ribbon connector for the keyboard, you should be able to clean the keyboard separately as described.
