whats the layout of the distribution. is it a rotating arm or does it go diagonally? the firing order is 1,3,4,2.

I think the clue is in the name (rotate) the layout of the distribution is rotary (clockwise or anticlockwise)

do you have a manual for the car? it will be under "Ignition"

yeh i have the manual for the car and we've tried both clockwise and anticlockwise and replaced the timing belt but still nothing. i know there are some distibutors that arent rotatin arms and they work differently i.e diagonally so i was wondering if it could be that but im unsure. We have tried just about everything now and still doesent seem to want to start.

Whereabouts on the car is this keypad? i havent seen it, the engine turns over but its not firing. :(

mines one of the models that doesent have this, i have seen it on images of the zx on google images and always wondered what it was for. now i know. thanks for the idea anyway.

I wish i could put the problem down to something as simple as that but my car doesent have an immobiliser therefore doesent have the keypad. its quite a basic model.
