DVD Recorder - Help me Please?

I am considering buying a DVD recorder to replace an old VHS recorder. I went into Currys this morning and they have totally confused me. I think the guy told me that I cannont record analogue channels and a DVD recorder? Is this correct. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question but I'm a complete technophobe!!!

Guy from Curry's is just a Salesman,you probably know more than him.!! Of course you can record Analogue Channels.
