Hello, I want to buy something on-line but I am unable to because the site tells me that I need to do something with cookies. I know exactly NOTHING about cookies, but have found something to do with them in the "advanced part of privacy settings" on my computer after a long search! Please can you tell me what I need to do next, and how to put it back afterwards. Many thanks in advance.

Cookies are small files that web sites create to hold useful information for when you revisit the site. So if you register with a site using a name and password it may hold the name and password in a cookie so you dont have to log on each time you visit the site.

Most people set their browser to ALLOW cookies to be created, this is normal.

However you can set your browser to NOT allow cookies to be created, or to be asked each time a web site wants to create a cookie.

You need to make sure the setting on your web browser WILL allow cookies to be created. Once you have done this you can leave it like this and dont need to change it back.
If you are using Internet Explorer as your browser then select the Help menu then the option Internet Explorer Help.

Search for "cookies" and the first option that comes up is how to block or allow cookies.

Read this and it will tell you how to set your browser to allow cookies or block cookies.

If you are not using IE then whatever browser you are using should still give you advice in the help if you search for cookies.
