a couple of days ago I had a paper jam and the only way of clearing it was to pull the paper from the top, since doing that I cannot use the printer as the alarm and ready/paper lights are blinking and nothing happens when I go to print. I have been through the manual to no avail which only tells me to press the panal switch after clearing the jam, can anyone tell me if I have damaged it or is there a hard reset I can do

Did you get ALL the paper out?

See above. Did the paper tear...no matter how small it could still have bits in the printer.
