can anybody tell me if the apple iphone pay as you go will work on the tesco network ,and is it just a case of putting in the sim card from my current phone

i have an original 2g iphone given to me by my nephew ,
hes moved up the scale .lol
i tried my tesco sim and i doesn't work its got to be an o2 sim card (even though tesco mobile is part of o2)
