Help Please I'm Struggling Again With Iphone.

My Apple iPhone use costs me £6/month with GiffGaff's Pay as You Go Plan which I pay through my bank and have done for many years no problem.  I have never got anywhere near going over my allowances.  A couple of days ago I was sitting with my phone in my hands when a hand came over my shoulder and dabbed at it.  Now I am getting messages that I am about to run over my allowance which cannot be right.  I notice that instead of my bank name on my phone screen it says GiffGaff.  Seems to me like GG is paying itself????  Please can anyone help. XXX

Whose hand, LB?  Where were you sitting?

I would contact Gigg Gaff and ask if there is unusual activity or for a break down of usage

One of my dog walkers came in to get the mutt Naomi. I was sitting on the sofa with my phone in my hand muttering to myself that I couldn't see my usual screen with my bank's name on it.  She lent over me from behind and said there's your bank's name ie GG and I said no it isn't but too late she'd hit the screen.

Calm I can see the usage it's just the calls I've made since this happened.

Oh, someone you know.  That's a relief.  I'm no good with technology but hopefully someone else can help.

Me too Naomi as I so need my phone at the moment.  J is going in for surgery first thing on Monday as the vet wants to take some Xrays and do ultrasound under sedation to see if we can sort out his coughing.  I thought he was OK for a while but he's not.  £1k to the vet is enough without paying money I don't owe to GG!!

Have you done the usual turn off, wait etc.

Try cleaning the screen with a soft cloth

If you access with face or finger ID try resetting them

Do you remember what was on the screen at the time

Thank you Calm but it was turned off all night plus I don't access with face or finger.  I think the screen was as usual with a picture of my mutt on it plus the usual icons.

£6 per month only gets you 1 GB of data with GiffGaff.  Watching just a few videos (e.g. on the BBC News website or, of course, on YouTube) can quickly push you close to that limit.

I had a message that my data usage was near my limit half way through the month and I couldn't work out why as I'm always well within my limit.  It turned out that my internet connection had dropped and so my phone had used my data allowance rather than the house internet.

Check that your phone is still connecting via wi-fi, rather than using mobile data, when you're at home.

Thanks Chris but I don't do anything on my phone except for talk to family and friends now and again.  I rarely go out as I have COPD and struggle to breathe.  I watch films and anything else on TV not phone.  I have always had a very low GiffGaff reading with plenty to spare and there is no reason it is so high this month except for the issue with someone interferring with my phone.  386.46 MB data left of 1 GB was the warning yesterday and I still have another day to go before the next month starts.  Chris how do I do what Omg21 has suggested? Thank you Omg.

PS Chris. I've just checked my phone and Wi-Fi is turned off so we can cross that off the list.  I must stress phone was fine until person pushed GiffGaff which had suddenly appeared on the screen.

I wouldn't worry too much anyway, LB.  You've got nearly 40% of your monthly allowance left, right at the end of the month.  So I can't see that there's any real problem.

If you still want to check that your iPad is connecting to your Wi-Fi, look for the Wi-Fi icon at the top right of your screen and/or go to Settings > Wi-Fi to check that it's tuned on.

Eh?  It should be turned ON!  (Then your phone will automatically connect to your router when you're at home but switch to using GiffGaff's mobile data when you're out of range of the router).

Chris sorry my Wi-Fi was on, not off.  Also, I live in a one bedroom flat so never far away from my router plus I don't go out as instructed by doctor other than to have cataracts removed.  My Wi-Fi is with Plusnet.  If stuff keeps plopping in at the same rate as this lot has to GiffGaff in just a few days gawd knows what will plop in during a whole month.  It's worrying me sick and I could so do without it.  Sorry Chris, I know you have your own load to bear and are only trying to help me.  Thank you. xx
