i am running out of space on my laptop

my local disc (c) is quickly running out of space, but for some reason my local disc (d) is empty, why is my laptop not using it and how can i fix the problem, if you have any ideas w ould appreciate it ty

You may find that your 'd' drive is your dvd/cd player/recorder....therefore, will be empty until you insert a cd/dvd....

Some hard disks are divided into sections called "partitions". If this is the case with yours then you may have a "C" and a "D" (as magicmerlin says, make sure "D" is not your CD drive).

IF "D" is on your hard disk then your laptop does not just "use" it, you have to TELL it to use it.

So if you copy digital pictures from your camera to hard disk tell it to put them on "D".

If you download mp3 files or video files, then just set the program so its puts them on "D" not "C".

While most times Windows will put things on "C" by default, if you want things on "D" instead then YOU have to specify it.

ok ty for the quick reply, first off im not sure how to transfer anything on to it and secondly there is a seperate symbol for the dvdR, any other thought would also be welcomed cheers

ty for the post vgh but im not sure how to tell my laptop to save files in the local disc D, when i right click a downloaded movie for example it does give me the option to send the file, but just not to the local disc D

you really need to pick up some basic skills first
If you aren't comfortable with moving files (one of the most basic functions) you should find the "for dummies" series informative

Untill you are confident doing this - it's best not to - because it's just too easy to loose possibly important files
