My understanding of ipods is that if you plug it into a computer without the music on - you can opt to just charge the ipod but aside from that the only other option is to sync it to that computer - which will obviously wipe it if the music isnt on there. If the music is on the new computer as far as I am aware (I had to do this a coule of weeks ago myself) you will need to recreate the library - which is damn annoying. I am no ipod expert but thats as far as my knowledge goes. =)
It can be done but you need a bit of software, most of them cost money.

Have a look on download.com and search for "ipod to computer".

nice-just looked at idump- free as well!!
Any thoughts on whether I should run the ipod+iTunes CD first on my new pc so that there is "library" there waiting to receive the stuff from my ipod?
Still nervous about plugging my ipod into the new pc and losing all my stuff- I have lots of tracks on the ipdo that I paid to download from itunes.
Any help arreciated

maybe I should download itunes 8 off the web- still issue of getting my ipod "cleaned" though?
Any thoughts?
download itunes again, sign in to itunes using the username you set account with, run the idump, cross your fingers.
thats what i did, you wont lose the stuff off the ipod because idump will copy it.

hope it works as good for you fella.
let me know.
