I have seen some simple'ish' programme downloads like screen savers which are *free* for say 15 days as a trial, then you have to pay a fee to the site for carrying on using the download. If I sent this download to friends in an email, or posted a link on a site for other people to upload, would everyone receive a demand for payment regardless of what generation the upload was? Trudi

usually the programme would run for 15 days & then you would need to enter a code to continue using it.  You then send some money to get the code.  Assuming you've paid you could let your friends know the code you use which may work.

Yes Stoo... I understand all that, but what I am asking is would all the people who have uploaded it be asked for a payment for the code? Trudi
well, not if your code works on their PCs.  if it doesn't work then yes they would have to pay to get a different code

Usually the software would display a message asking you to type in the code.  If you've got one no problem, if you haven't there will be instructions advising you how to pay for one.

Note the word 'usually'.  Doesn't always work this way - only way you're gonna know is by trying it.
The answer you are looking for is `Yes'
