Morning All,

Really sorry but stupid question alert, (I'm very much not technically minded) but my friend has just asked me if I ever installed WIndows Defender. I'm more or less certain I did but I actually don't know where I have to go on my computer to double check I have it.

Can someone advise me please? (Told you it was a stupid question!)

Cheers
China

Thanks Ethel. I couldn't see it so have just installed from your link, ta very muchly!
sorry chuck ... but the real stupid alert is your last reply

I like Microsoft (as much as a sane person can) - but defender is an oxymoron ...

it does very little by way of defending anything ... MS was very publicly excluded from the virus community's intelligence network ... so it's limited

and MS are waving the white flag and terminating their "security" software by this summer
If you Have microsoft defender installed, get rid of it, its no more use than ornament

I have avaris too... Does that count?
if you have Avira (?) then that will have disabled windows defender when you installed it (and your better protected)

It's a blue circle ball with an A in it... Sorry, Avast not Avaris! (I hate coming in to Technology, I always show myself up for being a numpty!)

I had that already and that my friend randomly asked today if I had defender too as he wanted me to have both on the 'puter.
You need a firewall, too, if you haven't got one.

ZoneAlarm and Comodo are both free.

You need just one of those.

I've got a windows firewall... In view of earlier comments I'm not sure how secure that is now.
I use Comodo with Avast.

Any new firewall is going to be a pain for the first few days - constantly 'asking permission' for everything.

I used to use ZoneAlarm and would quite happily recommend it to anybody. Give ZA a whirl and see how you get on.

Thank you Ethel!

I'm downloading it now. :c)
I'm with Ethel. You can't go wrong with ZA. It's ace!
