Does anyone on theanswerbank know how to take Windows Defender off my computer,I have Windows 10.
Why I am asking this advise is this afternoon my wife was looking on the Eastbourne Herald site, she had a red page appear with a trojan on it ,she could not get it off the computer so she did an inproper shutdown.
We have Norton 360,but that did not come in to play as Windows defender was on as well,I was advised to put Windows Defender on by Windows 10.
I have got rid of the Trojan now with Norton Antivirus thankfully.

Thankyou for any help

Windows 10 should automatically prevent Defender from running when it detects that you've got another antivirus program (such as Norton 360) running. So you shouldn't need to do anything.

You can't officially uninstall Windows Defender but there are ways around it:

You don't need to be paying for Norton 360. Defender is far more effective and employs the sandbox technique. Defender will have isolated the Trojan and had you run the Defender scan it would have given you the details. I have tried them all. Norton, AVG, etc etc. They all prey on your fears and are too intrusive. Norton treats any other spy or malware programme as an attack including windows programmes.
//Windows Defender will automatically disable itself when you install a third-party antivirus, and then re-enable itself again if you ever uninstall that third-party antivirus. It’s designed to get out of the way.//

Defender will not have prevented Norton from blocking the Trojan.

Thankyou both for your help much appreciated
What advantages does Defender have ?

It’s built-in, it won’t harass you with pop-ups and requests for money, and is lighter than some competing antivirus solutions. It won’t attempt to harvest your browsing data and make money from it, as some free antivirus programs have started doing in an attempt to make a profit.

Windows 10 for example also includes various other protections introduced in Windows 8, like the SmartScreen filter that prevents you from downloading and running malware. Chrome and Firefox also include Google’s Safe Browsing, which blocks many malware downloads.

Defender is also by far the least intrusive, considering most other antivirus programs come bundled with crapware, install problematic browser extensions, and contain occasional popup ads, this alone is where other Av programs can ruin your PC by secretly installing rubbish you think you need or didn't realize was installed, Defender works with Windows so it knows not to install rubbish without you knowing.. source http://www.top10antiviruslist.com/
