replacing ds lite screen

my son has a nintendo ds lite and his little brother and sister have knackered the bottom touch screen. It's his birthday in a couple of weeks, but as i can't afford a replacement, wondered how easy it is to repair? I see you can buy the bits and bobs from t'internet. Would i need to buy the touch pad, the screen, or both? Has anyone done it - is it straightforward?

A friend of my son damaged his ,he took it back to the games shop and they gave him an address of the repair shop who fix them,he was quite happy wih the price as well

If you google 'replacing DS lite bottom screen' there's a lot of info about . Looks quite tricky to me to be honest .
