I scanned some documents and wanted to send them to someone by e-mail. All went well until I pressed "send" and up popped a box telling me outlook express wanted a password. I'm on hotmail so what's outlook express got to do with anything? I don't have a password for it.

You would be best sending these as attachments through hotmail rather than trying to do it directly from your application.

Are you using internet explorer?
Go to tools - internet options - programs, you will probably see that where it says email, you have "outlook express".

Thanks, but that's what I did and this box popped up. I'll have another look later, I'm at work at the moment.
OE is probably set as your default email application on your PC so this will happen if you try to email items by right click and sent to..

But we use hotmail all the time. This is probably the first time we have tried to send scanned stuff though, can we alter the default?
not if you use Hotmail. if you want to send docs via Hotmail you'll need to copy and paste them into your mail. Default mail is only applicable to email programs not web based mail. you're only going to come across this problem if you use an email send option anywhere from within your computer. Compose your mail first then copy your docs into it. Either that or configure OE to download your Hotmail. You'll need someone who uses Hotmail to help you with that, i don't
scaniavabis is close when he/she says to setup OE to use hotmail, but you would need to upgrade OE to windows live mail first (Microsoft removed hotmail support for OE earlier this year)

then you can use either the webmail or live mail to access your email but the scanning and sending would work OK through live mail.
