in the flat im about to move into. It doesnt have a landline so no internet! can i get broadband installed without wires? (oh and im using a laptop aswell)

Not without wires, they're need to put a cable into your flat (like cable tv).

ok so we've got that established! who's the best provider? and can i use my laptop?
That isn`t established at all. Broadband can be connected via satellite. Look at the following website for information and reviews of all connection types and ISPs:-http://www.ispreview.co.uk/ and yes you can use a laptop.
you can get a Nokia dataphone card for your pcmcia slot and use generalpacket radioservice so no landline needed, it's expensive though here's a link http://www.directmobilephones.com/nokia_d211_index3.htm [cut n paste it to your address bar]
Also, you can get Vodafone 3G PCMCIA cards. Not as fast as broadband though. There are also wireless broadband providers but they have limited coverage. Look here : http://www.ispreview.co.uk/broadband/wire.shtml
Oh, and satellite ISPs need a fixed line aswell for outgoing requests!
