What would be a reasonable number of items in the startup folder?

I don't have many optional programs starting automatically but still have 18 items.

I normally have a totally empty startup folder, if I want the program then I run it manually

18 would seem to be a bit excessive. I'd reckon the majority of those items could be deleted from the startup folder without undue side effects.

Create a folder called something like old startup items and move them into that, then if them not being in the startup folder causes any problems you can move them back easily

18!!!!!!!!!!

you have the synaptic touchpad AND what I guess is a logitech - if you don't use the touchpad much the windows driver gives you basic functionality - just not control of tapping and similar

TomTom, Creative, TK Bellexe, javaupdates aren't loading in startup - I disabled them ages ago.

I DO use my trackpad a lot - the mouse is just for a particular game.
