I have recently got a new computer with Vista HomePremium. The Works Word processor which is part of the system does not have the same features as Word on my old ME system and is not as easy to use. Do I need to install my old Word 2000 ?

Up to you really or you could use open office http://www.openoffice.org/ which is free
If you want the features of Word then you will need to install your Word 2000.
It should work OK under Vista.
It will also work alongside Works.
(You say Works is part of the system, but it is not part of Vista, it is part of Microsoft Works which is a separate package that can be installed on top of Vista and is often given away "free" with Vista).

if you don't like works ... uninstall it
(I thought works used word these days???)
there are some issues with 2000 and vista ... but it tends to be Outlook that causes them
2003 is the first fully compatible version with Vista ... but as VH says you'll be unlucky if it wont work - as long as you don't use it for e-mail
