I have been having a few problems with my PC over the last few months - a couple of weeks ago it totally froze and I had to switch it off rather than log off - when I switched it back on, it took ages and ages and then eventually came up with the log in screen, but when I click any of the names, it asks for a password. I don't have any passwords, can't remember setting any up and it never usually asks for one. I have tried various options, and no matter what I put in, or if I leave it blank, I get the following message "The system cannot log you on now because the domain OFFICE is not available"

I have tried to reload my original disks, but it still is the same and I cannot use it at all.

Can anybody help??

in this page (half way down)
the XP logon can either be locally or to a domain
I suspect yours is trying to log on to a domain

the first four XP logon screens show how to switch between local and domain

Thanx for the response AC - fraid it is nothing like that - I just had the usual 4 buttons with our family names on them, but when you clicked on any of them, it asked for a password. Anyhoo, bit the bullet last night and reloaded XP completely - now lost everything including my modem access etc.

Will have another go at trying to sort it out tonight.
